Mission Statement

The practice of Drs. Hansen and Torba, PC has been serving the Derry and Latrobe area for over thirty years. Our goal has been to provide exceptional quality dental care in a comfortable and pleasant environment. Once good dental health is established, our intent is to help you maintain it. The connection between poor oral health and heart disease is firmly established in the scientific community. Therefore, creating and maintaining good oral health directly translates to helping ones overall physical health and well being. To achieve this goal, our services cover all general dentistry, implants, crowns, cosmetic dentistry, full and partial dentures, root canals, children’s dentistry, and periodontics.

We hope to work with our patients over the long term to ensure continuity of treatment and exceptional dental health.

We want your time spent with us to be an enjoyable experience. Our standards of sterilization and infection control meet and exceed industry standards. Your health and safety are our highest priority.

Our Office

The state-of-the art-dental office of Drs. Hansen and Torba was built in 2003, and is located off of Route 217. Our office was designed with your comfort in mind. We are a completely LATEX FREE practice and the building contains a spacious reception area and large windows in each operatory.

Our countryside office location allows patients to see multiple forms of wildlife while visiting. During the summer months, one can even view humming birds as they come right to the windows to feed.

Appointments

We know you have many choices when choosing a dentist in the Latrobe, area, so we have made requesting an appointment a simple process and will do our best to accommodate your schedule. If, for any reason you cannot keep a scheduled appointment, or will be delayed, please call us as soon as possible at (724)539-4591.

Technology

In order to provide you with the best care and enable you to make educated decisions regarding your oral health, we have incorporated many new forms of technology into our practice. Our digital x-ray system provides quality images at significantly reduced radiation levels. In each operatory, there are 24 inch monitors designed to allow you to view radiographs and images of your teeth taken with our intra-oral camera. With this technology, you can see what the doctor sees. We also offer the latest in digital impression systems with the Cerec Omnicam. No more temporaries or impressions with that sticky dental material!

Continuing Education

Our office places emphasis on continuing education. Over the years, Dr. Hansen and Dr. Torba have taken thousands of hours of advanced courses, including attending the prestigious Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Studies and the Seattle Institute for Advanced Dental Education. They continue to attend national American Dental Association conferences and workshops in order to remain updated in the latest dental advancements. This commitment to continuing their education ensures that each patient is receiving the most up-to-date treatment.

Insurance & Billing

Our office participates with many insurance plans and policies. If you do not see your insurance listed below, please call our office or contact us through our website to see if we participate with your plan. We also encourage you to go on your insurance company’s website or call your insurance company for additional information.

We accept: United Concordia, Concordia Parnet Advantage, Concordia Advantage Network, National Fee for Service, Blue Chip, FEDVIP, Blue Edge Dental-PPO, Security Blue, Freedom Blue, METLIFE Insurance Company, Delta Dental, Guardian Life Insurance Co, School Claims Service, Dental Wellness Partners, Humana, UPMC Dental Advantage, Cigna, and Aetna.

Payment Options

We accept checks, cash or credit cards. Please visit with our Financial Coordinator for details. We are happy to file insurance for your reimbursement as long as you are free to choose your own dentist.

2024 Patient Appreciation Program

Premiums

Payment occurs annually. One month before your contract expires you will receive a letter instructing you to call our office to renew. If there is an increase in premium, you will be notified in this letter. Credit card info can be updated at this time.

Premiums

Individual ($125/year)
Husband & wife or significant other ($175/year)
Parents and child/children ($200/year).

Children are covered under the plan until age 26
Enrollment is open at the beginning of every quarter, or you must pay full premium if you join mid-quarter
Enrollment is for a one-year period

How does the program work?

Co-pay of $65 for New Patient Exam, Pan X-ray, Bite-wing, X-rays, and Velscope.

Co-pay of $65 for New Patient Cleaning.

Co-pay of $65 for each adult cleaning/recall exam (limited to two/year), and $65 for emergency/office visits. All necessary X-rays are included in this fee. Co-pay of $65 for each child (ages 2-18 years of age) cleaning/recall exam (limited to 2/year). All necessary X-rays are included in this fee.

Any broken appointment will follow the office protocol and normal $ penalties will apply.

We do not recommend the program to an insurance patient since our in-office insurance program will be secondary payer, and there will be minimum benefit to an insured patient.

Our Team

We firmly believe in our motto that "You Deserve the Best" and we strive to provide optimal quality dentistry for our patients. We take the utmost care with each patient by providing comprehensive dental treatment utilizing teamwork and modern technology to obtain the best possible results.

DR. RICHARD HANSEN, D.M.D.

Dr. Richard Hansen grew up in Warren, Pennsylvania and graduated from Warren Area High School. He then attended the University of Pittsburgh graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and biology. He also attended the University of Pittsburgh for his Dental Medicine degree where he met Dr. Torba. After graduation, they elected to become partners and begin a practice along Rt 217. Dr. Hansen married Karen Ostroski from Glassport, Pennsylvania and raised two children in Unity Township. Dr. Hansen is a member of the American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association and the Odontological Society of Western Pennsylvania. He and Dr. Torba have been in private practice in the same area for over 30 years. Both doctors have prioritized continuing education and have attended National Dental Conventions and have taken extensive courses by the Seattle Institute for Advanced Dental Education conducted by Dr. Frank Spears, and the Dawson Institute in Florida conducted by Dr. Pete Dawson.

DR. EDWARD TORBA, D.M.D.

Dr. Edward m. Torba is a life-long resident of Derry Township and a 1969 graduate of Derry Area H.S. He attended the University of Pittsburgh, graduating with honors in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1977 from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Torba has been in general practice for over 34 years. Dr. Torba’s community involvement included being a member of the Derry Area School Board for ten years, coaching youth league football with the Greater Latrobe Midget Football association, and as a junior high football coach at Greensburg Central Catholic H.S.
